FAQ

  1. I don’t know how to install updates

First of all you need to determine what type of system you have.
If you have already purchased updates i guess you know what you have.. if not – please read this manual.

UPDATE PROCESS MIGHT LOOK DIFFICULT but it’s not that bad! We have prepared all our manuals with all important informations (and there’s quite a lot!), so if you will follow this guide, nothing wrong should happen. BUT YOU NEED READ & WATCH ALL MOVIES with understanding, focus on it..

99% of customers troubles comes from not reading all guides.

After purchasing you will receive email with download links, if for some reason you have not received email from us (it could be on spam/junk folder) you can also login to your account  and go to the Downloads tab or Orders tab where you’ll find download links.

Download all files (do not skip any, as while unpacking you might get an error), after that you’ll need to unpack files, to do that you need to download & install 7zip.org application.`

More informations about unpacking you can find here:

    How to unpack files?

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING AS MANY OF YOU TRYING TO DO THAT… DO NOT PUT ALL FILES / ARCHIVES OR AFTER UNPACKING TOGETHER!

I MEAN DO NOT PUT FIRMWARE FILES / MAPS FILES / ACTIVATION ETC ON THE SAME SD CARD AS YOU’LL OVERWRITE UPDATES AND MMI WILL NOT READ IT.

ALL UPDATES MUST BE DONE SEPARATELY IN ORDER:

    1. GREEN MENU
    2. FIRMWARE
    3. GREEN MENU
    4. MAPS
    5. ACTIVATION

Also diagrams on manuals pages are related to the MMI systems, if you have MMI 3G Plus look on MI 3G Plus key combinations, 3G Basic for 3G Basic combinations – as all of them got different access keys for green menu, engineering menu etc.

How to recognise which files are for what?

When you get a bundle pack, you’ll receive quite a lot of download links, so you might be confused what is what.

    The firmware it’s always something like: HN+ / HN+R / HNav / MHI2 / MHIG.

Maps files are  always with numbers: 6.22.1 / 6.32.1 / 5.31.2 (those numbers can be different for different year of maps update and system).

But you’ll recognise it in your download list, as maps updates usually got quite a lot of size so we had to split them into many smaller parts (that’s why you’ll see endings .002 / .003 etc) and always needs to unpack just .001 file (do not touch other numbers! 002-003-004-etc) all other numbers will join automatically when unpacking just .001

Now depends if your car it’s equipped with bose you need to have access to the hidden green menu – this method works only for MMI 3G units!!! how to do that:

Enabling audi mmi hidden green menu – MMI 3G – script & VCDS

for MMI 2G High, you will need to have VCDS:

MMI 2G High – How to enable hidden green menu

please remember after firmware installation you’ll need to re-enable access to the hidden green menu, as new firmware will wipe it off. You’ll also need hidden green menu to install maps update.

After that you can proceed with firmware update in MMI 3G / Mib / RMC :

    For Mib2 units

    How to update Mib2 firmware

    For MMI 2G High:

After firmware installation you need to enable hidden green menu by using one of above methods, after that you can install maps update

    for Audi MMI Mib2:

for MMI 3G High & Plus

    For MMI 3G Basic

How to install maps update MMI 3G Basic.

    For MMI 2G High:

MMI 2G High firmware / maps CD preparation manual.

After all installation when you check error logs via VCDS you might see two: 03276 and 03623 – but you don”t have to worry about it, they are not major and will not display any errors on dash, if you have VCDS you can remove them:

03276 – Please Check Software Version Management
    03623 – Invalid Security

All updates must be installed separately, you can’t put firmware / maps / activation on just one SDCARD – it will not work like that!

If you are making full MMI update (firmware + maps) you should first update firmware then maps.

If you have Bose audio system it’s strongly recommended to enable first Hidden Green Menu (script it’s attached on to bundle pack) and enable user defined mode. More about how to disable update for Bose / Bang Olufsen you’ll find in above tutorials.

Those links you also received with order confirmation mail.. please read it and follow properly, step by step in correct menus.. and if you get any trouble visit this page first, take a closer look on manuals above.. as 99% your problems and email requests are about things which are already described in our tutorials / FAQ page, to save your & our time be more patient and read everything before you ask any question.

Every update might give you a risk, however we have prepared our tutorials to avoid any user faults.. that mean YOU HAVE TO READ INSTRUCTIONS FROM START TO THE END and follow them exactly how they looks!

  8. Are you taking full responsibility of fault cause by updates?

No. We don’t taking any kind of responsibility when you doing firmware / maps updates on your own. Why?We don’t know what exactly you have done, how did you prepare SD CARDs, how did you perform update or what changes have you applied in hidden green menu.
Some people has blaming us that after maps updates, their car engine doesn’t work like before ????‍♂️
(doesn’t matter that’s completely two different control units..)
ECU & MMI module (5F) are not the same!
So if you are looking for free car service from us, just try somewhere else.. ????
We only taking responsibility when we are installing those updates in your MMI.

  9. Where from you got updates?

We are buying them straight from manufacturer.

  10. How to recognise what MMI do I have?

  11. Any updates for my MMI?

  12. I’ve got one of these errors 3GP:0 error code 160, GEMMI_nav:0 error code 141

You may see those errors during firmware or maps update, why they are? If you see them you probably do not read properly our tutorials
in 99% you have copied files on to SDCARD by using MacOS system, this can brick your MMI unit, we have clearly mention to use Windows based computer to download and copy the files on to SDCARD. MacOS is creating lots of hidden files which are not visible to you, but MMI can see them and they are making it confused which files to use.
But if you prepared SDCARD on windows and still got one of these errors, then your sdcard is probably damaged.. try to format again and remember to use FAT32, download & unpack again files and copy on to SDCARD – if still fail, use different sdcard.

  13. Google earth is greyed out after firmware update.

It’s an common issue, please reinstall firmware and select in DEVICE LIST only GEMMI, it will fix this issue.
Make sure you have enabled User Defined mode in Hidden Green Menu, if not:
    Go to Hidden Green Menu,
    Go to SWDL tab
    and tick User Defined

then exit green menu by pressing Media or other button on MMI console.
Go to Engineering Menu and perform update, then select User Defined Mode, and try to find on the list GEMMI, go inside and tick every option in the submenus – Please select just APPLICATION, do not select BOOTLOADER

and then perform update. After that your Google Earth / Audi connect will start working again.

  14. My MMI can’t find update

That’s another common error, when you are moving the files from computer on to SDCARD, make sure that they do not goes in parent folder.
For example, if you have downloaded file called: HN+R_EU_AU_P1001.rar  when you unpack this file you will get another folder
HN+R_EU_AU_P1001 and inside this folder you can see:

and copy those files on to SDCARD, not with parent folder. This is just an example but related to every firmware/maps update from us.
    OR
You have not get to the RED engineering menu (two buttons method)

  15. MMI displays “No update device found”

If you see this screen screen please back to installation instructions (maps / firmware). Every firmware / maps update must be done via ENGINEERING MENU. How to get there + video you can find on instructions pages. If MMI still can’t find update, please check tab above.

  16. VCDS shows error “03276 – Please Check Software Version Management”

  17. What SDCARD size should I use?

Not every SD CARD can be used to do firmware/maps installation or for scripts.
We have tested many SD CARD’s and we can recommend 8/16/32/64 GB:
    Kingstone canvas.
    Samsung EVO.
    Adata.
Firmware update do not need big SD CARD, but because of MMI limitation we recommend to use at least 8GB.
Maps update (depends on area) needs 32GB (USA/Canada/Mexico) or 64GB (Europe).
Maps activations, scripts (ie: green menu activation, error removals etc) needs at least 8GB SD CARD.
to use 64GB SD CARD in MMI 3G you will need third party application to format as FAT32. (more about here – click).
You can also install firmware / maps update by using USB (if your car is equipped with AMI and you have AMI->USB cable) – just remember that you can’t install any scripts, activate maps through USB – this part must be done via SDCARDs.

  18. VCDS shows error “03623 – Invalid Security”

  19. Navigation data is blocked / Navigation data not enabled

    If you see this screen:

it mean you haven’t read tutorial properly! You have to activate maps. Click here to read how to do it

  20. The medium is currently unavailable

If you see this error in your MMI screen:

you have probably used SDCARD bigger than 32GB. MMI for updates can’t read sd cards bigger than 32GB – it has to be also formatted in FAT32!.
It might also show you when you trying to make update from wrong MMI menu (on photo you see Setup MMI which is wrong position to perform the update).. Every update has to be performed from Engineering Menu, how to get there you got in our tutorials here
Some customers also noticed this error when they are in Red Engineering menu when they was using MicroSD card and SD CARD adapter, when they have switched to the different adapter it start working too, so please also check that if you have this error when you are in Red Engineering menu.

  21. Bose has stop working, or working incorrectly

  24. Can’t pay in checkout!

in 99% there’s a problem with 3DS authentication which has failed.
    What is 3DS authentication?
3D Secure (3-domain structure), also known as a payer authentication, is a security protocol that helps to prevent fraud in online credit and debit card transactions. One of the advantages of 3D Secure is that it reduces fraud. It also makes shopping/commerce safer online.
If you receive a “3D Authentication failed” error – it means that you were not successful entering required information. Please correct any typing errors, deactivate Caps Lock, check the data if needed and try one more time.
If the error remains – contact your credit card issuing bank for additional information.
