Apple CarPlay is a platform that is meant to integrate the Apple smartphone with the car. This provides the driver with many conveniences, among which we can indicate for example the ability to make phone calls, navigate or stream music to the radio in the vehicle.

Which cars have CarPlay?

Apple CarPlay – short introduction

Apple’s solution became widely known on the market a few years ago. It was then that the majority of car manufacturers realized that it is worth investing in this multimedia system and ensure its compatibility.

With CarPlay, you can enjoy a functional multimedia platform that in a sense will be an extension of your smartphone. It allows you to make phone calls, navigate using Google Maps, which is also the basis of the competing Android Auto platform, or use selected music streaming applications. The list of CarPlay possibilities is even longer.

Every year, more and more people are asking themselves which cars are equipped with CarPlay. Contrary to appearances, these are not just cars at the top end of the price spectrum. It can be said that cars supporting CarPlay are already very common on the market. It is estimated that there are more than five hundred of them. Which models are these?

Alfa Romeo

The company has two cars that are compatible with this standard. The list of vehicles includes Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio. The Giulia has already gained the sympathy of many consumers around the world, so they will surely be happy to know that they can use CarPlay.

Audi

The esteemed manufacturer with a distinctive logo has a lot of cars in its portfolio compatible with this standard. The cars that rolled off the production lines and were already compatible with Apple CarPlay are all cars built after 2017 from the A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, Q2, Q7, R8, TT, Q3, A5, Q8 and e-tron families.

BMW

The company from Bavaria also provides extensive support for the CarPlay standard. The following vehicles are compatible with it from 2017 (and up): series: 1, 6, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8. The situation is similar for the families: X3, X4, X5, X6, X7. Since 2017, also the 3 series, and a year later, BMW added cars from the X1 and X2 and i3 lines. The latest BMW i8 and Z4 are also compatible with Apple CarPlay.

Citroen

The manufacturer with French roots joined the CarPlay ecosystem very soon, back in 2016. Starting that very year, such cars as Berlingo Multispace, C3, C4, C4 Picasso, C5, C6, Jumper and Jumpy provided owners of Apple smartphones with full compatibility. In 2017, the following were added to the group: C3 AirCross, C3 XR, C4 Cactus, C4 Lounge, C4L, C-Elysee and C-Quatre. The latest cars compatible with Apple’s proposed technology are the new Citroen Berlingo (from 2018) and C5 Aurcross (from 2018).

Fiat

The Italian company also provides Apple CarPlay support. Since 2017, it has been enjoyed by owners of the Fiat 500, 500L and Tipo. Since 2018, the company has added compatibility with this standard for the Fiat 500X, as well as for the new Fiat Argo.

Ford

This is another popular manufacturer that supports Apple CarPlay in the vast majority of cars. As of 2017, it is enjoyed by owners of such Fords as the C-MAX, Fiesta, Flex, Focus, Taurus, EDGE, Escape and Fusion, as well as the Transit and Transit Connect. Highly regarded Ford Mustang is also compatible with Apple CarPlay, as well as other not very popular Ford models: Ford Explorer, Super Duty, GT and EcoSport. The company has already announced that the Ford Bronco, Bronco Sport and Mustang Mach-E will connect with CarPlay.

Honda

The manufacturer has been providing compatibility with the Apple-branded standard since 2016. If we buy an Accord or Civic from 2016 or newer, this one should pair effortlessly with our iPhone. A year later, the company added the Honda CRV and Pilot. With the following years came support for models like the Odyssey, Clarity, Fit, HRV, Insight, and Passport.

Hyundai

The Asian giant has been moving forward with compatibility for CarPlay since 2015. From that point on, we got compatibility with the Apple system for: Genesis Sedan, Azera, Sonata, as well as Hyundai i10, i30, i40, Elantra GT or Tuscon. Next years brought compatibility with models: Santa Fe, Ioniq, Kona, Santa Fe Sport, Elantra, Accent, Nexo, Palisade and Venue.

Mazda

Mazda has also joined the group of vehicles on which Apple CarPlay will work. As of 2018, the platform is integrated into the Mazda 6. A year later, the CX5, CX8, and CX9 were added, and as of 2019, the Mazda 3. 2020 brought support for the Mazda CX3, CX30, Mazda 2, and Mazda MX5.

Mercedes

The legendary company with its distinctive star logo is also providing support. Since 2016, we can integrate CarPlay into cars from the line: A, B, CLA, CLS, E (Cabrio), GLA and GLE. A year later it was added for: E-Class, GLS, SL, and since 2018 CarPlay works with Mercedes GLS-Class, S-Class and C-Class.

Opel

The company has been providing support for the Apple CarPlay platform since 2016. At that time, it was integrated with Opel ADAM, Astra, Corsa and Insignia. A year later, the Ampera, Crossland X, Mokka and Zafira were added, and as of 2018 also Combo Life and Grandland.

Peugeot

The French giant has been supporting Apple CarPlay since 2016. Since that year, models such as: 208, 2008, 308S, 3008, 4008 and 408, Expert, Partner Tepee, Traveller have it. Over time, CarPlay was added for: Peugeot 301, 308, 308SW, 508 and 5008, as well as for the Peugeot Rifter.

Renault

Another French company that, in 2017, also joined the ranks of Apple CarPlay supporters. Back then, the ecosystem became compatible with the manufacturer’s models such as the Clio, Escape, Kadjar, Megane, Megane Estate, Scenic, Grand Scenic, Talisman and Talisman Estate. 2018 provided support for: Koleos, Fluence and the new Renault Twingo.

Skoda

The Czech manufacturer provides support with CarPlay from 2016 for: Skoda Yeti, Fabia, Octavia, Rapid, Suberb. A year later, the standard was added for: Karoq, Kodiaq, Skoda Scala, and from 2018 for Skoda Kamiq.

Toyota

This valued company began to provide vehicles compatible with Apple CarPlay in 2018. At that time, it was introduced in the Toyota Aygo. A year later, the company invested in a wider implementation for: Avalon, Corolla HB, Camry, CHR and RAV4. New 2020 vehicles like the Corolla, Prius Prime, Supra, Tacoma, Venezia and Toyota Yaris also support the standard.

Volkswagen

The German giant has supported CarPlay since 2016 in: VW CC, Amarok, Beetle (also for cabriolet version), Golf R, Caddy, e-Golf, Fox, Golf (also for cabriolet, sportvan, variant and sportwagen). There are also VW GTI, Jetta, Multivan, Passat variant, Polo, Sharan, Tiguan, and Transporter on the list. As of 2017, compatibility has been added with: Atlas, Crafter, CrossFox, Golem, Saveiro, Voyage, and as of 2018, the list includes: Arteon, Bora, Magotan and T-ROC.

Volvo

The company with roots from Scandinavia first implemented CarPlay in 2016, but only for one car: the XC90. Since 2017, the standard has appeared in: S90, V90. In 2018 it was added for XC60, and from 2019 such cars as: Volvo S60, V60 and XC40 are also compatible with Apple CarPlay.
